The Church of San Cristoforo
The Center of Siena is a magical labyrinth of churches and museums , a collage in which stands a small church of Romanesque origin that rises in the famous Piazza Tolomei and that between 1200 and 1300 assumed a role fundamental in the management of the city.
It is the Church of San Cristoforo that at that time was the seat of the Bell Council.
This church divided by four columns underwent the imposing and disastrous force of an earthquake towards the end of the eighteenth century and for this reason it was restored more or more times.
The Church of San Cristoforo is adorned with two statues in neoclassical style and in the internal aisle presents the marvelous Madonna with Child and Saints by Girolamo del Pacchia .
The altar is then embellished by the Blessed Bernardo Tolomei, a series of sculptures by Bartolomeo Mazzuoli.
And then there is a cloister that periodically hosts exhibitions of sacred and modern art.
