Pienza is one of the most beautiful and intense medieval villages in the Province of Siena to visit. It was Pope Pius II who asked the architect Leon Battista Alberti to build it in three years on the foundations of a village called Corsignano.
Entering Pienza is literally plunging into a symbol of ancient harmony and beauty, with a wonderful main road, Corso Rossellino which crosses the entire city and then flows into the main square, the Trapezoid-shaped Pizza Pio II with a pavement herringbone.
To visit absolutely are the Cathedral, the Town Hall and Piazza Piccolomini.
